What Have I Learned?

This week I learned about:

IPv4 Subnetting :

Subnetting is a method in which we split a network into smaller networks called "Subnets." It's used to free up more public IPv4 addresses and segment networks for security and easier management. (Networking Basics: What Is IPv4 Subnetting?, 2018)

Top-Down Network Design Model & Objectives:

Top-down network design is a methodology for designing networks that begins at the upper layers of the OSI reference model before moving to the lower layers. It focuses on applications, sessions, and data transport before the selection of routers, switches, and media that operate at the lower layers. (Using a Top Down Network Design Methodology - Network Design, 2021)

DHCP :

In research from Efficientip (2020), "Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is a network management protocol used to automate the process of configuring devices on IP networks, thus allowing them to use network services such as DNS, NTP, and any communication protocol based on UDP or TCP."

DNS:

According to new research, "The Domain Name System is a hierarchical and decentralized naming system for computers, services, or other resources connected to the Internet or a private network. It associates various information with domain names assigned to each of the participating entities." (Wikipedia contributors, 2021)

Why Have I learned This?

I believe that I have learned these things as it is important to understand the theory of what these are and why we use them, rather than trying to learn how we implement such things. I believe that this gained knowledge is important as I can implement it in a wide range of subnetting scenarios

How Have I learned This?

I have learned this by researching into what subnetting is, why we would use it, and how I would implement it in a real world situation
